Where I’m From
I am from the slums of Connecticut where everyone around me was from a different culture.
I am from playing jacks in the street, running through the running water of the fire hydrant was our summer fun.
I am from a time where you often heard come inside before the streetlights come on.
I am from the Thompson clan where creativity ran through our blood and was passed down from our grandfather.
I am from white socks
From Bill Blass Jeans and Reebok Sneakers
I am from 195 Custer St, a little troublesome, 2 story apartment.
I am from never cut grass.
I am from thanksgiving dinners and stress.
I am from Fannie and Charles
I’m from chaos and disfunction.
From go to school and don’t lie.
I’m from occultism and daddy grace.
I’m from Pitt County NC, sweet potato biscuits, and fried chicken.
From Bessie Harris the local midwife and root worker.
The stubborn strength of my father.
Kept in photo albums.
